2020 Recap

The inaugural Santy Cup was everything it was supposed to be and more — great camaraderie, plenty of beers, a lot of laughs, and amazing tacos courtesy of Matt Starkey. The team competition came down to the wire, tied 3–3 heading into Sunday’s singles. Team Higgins showed up to the range early and grinding; Team Fante, by most accounts, was still asleep.

Saturday night’s pairings didn’t help Fante’s cause — Captain Fante reportedly blacked out mid-decision and couldn’t quite remember the matchups he’d set. Sunday delivered fireworks anyway. The opening match — Matt Starkey against Nick Stock — turned into an instant classic, with Starkey draining a slider on 17 to go 1 up. With Team Higgins already holding three wins on the board, that putt clinched the very first Santy Cup for Team Higgins, 7–5.

Individually, Jordan Higgins became the first-ever Santy Cup Champion, fighting through rough Sunday conditions for a come-from-behind, two-shot win — the answer to a trivia question that’ll get asked every year this thing runs.
