2021 Champion

Ben Galluzzo

Net 221 — Bendelow Green Jacket

A dead heat through Day 1 between Chris Amato and Matt Starkey gave way to Galluzzo’s steady closing run — dialed-in iron play, several closest-to-pin wins, and clutch putts down the stretch, capped off in rough, rainy mountain conditions Saturday. His first-ever Santy Cup appearance.

2021 Recap

Known ever since as the “Mauling in the Mountains,” 2021 was a complete rout. Team Fante took every single session — Thursday 3.5–1.5, Friday morning 3.5–1.5, Friday afternoon’s Shamble/Scramble another 3.5–1.5 — and Team Higgins never found a way back in. Captain Fante, criticized after a rocky first year, redeemed himself with pairings that clicked from the opening tee shot.

Singles only extended the damage, with Fante taking 6.5 of 10 available points to close it out 17–8, evening Series I at 1–1 heading into the decider. Fante’s Chris Amato, Keith Brinkmann, Brett Buccigross, Will Carroll, Ben Galluzzo, Kevin Hegman, Kyle Mahoney, Nick Stock, and Ben Rader made it a complete team effort from top to bottom.

Individually, Ben Galluzzo claimed his first Santy Cup title in his first-ever appearance, closing a tight race that had Chris Amato and Matt Starkey trading the lead through the first two days. Consistent ball-striking, a hot putter, and several closest-to-pin wins carried him through a rainy, mountainous final round.
