2023
The Course
Forest Dunes sits on 500 wooded acres within the Huron National Forest, with three courses on property: Forest Dunes itself, a Tom Weiskopf parkland-style classic with modern touches; The Loop, a reversible 18-hole course played clockwise (Black) one day and counter-clockwise (Red) the next — both ranked among Golf Digest’s Top 100 Public Courses; and the Bootlegger Short Course. All three put the field to the test, and it showed — 2023 remains one of the most competitive Cups in Santy history.

Kyle Mahoney
Ron Smith led after Round 1, but Mahoney’s moving day on The Loop Red (net 1-under) vaulted him into a share of the lead. He never looked back — a net 1-under again on The Loop Black in the final round, capped by a net eagle on 10, sealed the largest margin of victory in Santy Cup history.

2023 Recap
The opening year of Series II delivered one of the most competitive Cups in Santy history. Thursday ended in a dead-even 3–3 tie after Brandon Cole drained a 15-footer on 18 to force a halved match. Team Solids took control Friday, winning four of six matches for a 7–5 lead — only for Team Stripes to answer right back Saturday morning, taking four of six in the Shamble/Scramble to flip the lead to 9.5–8.5.
Singles came down to the final three groups on the course. With Team Stripes leading 13–14 (needing just a half point to win), Jared Wagoner and Matt Starkey both fought back to halve their matches, pulling Solids within a half point. That set up Jordan Higgins — 2 down through 15 against Jordan Roth — to win 16, 17, and 18, capped by a shot into the par-5 17th at The Loop Black that set up a tap-in birdie. Higgins closed it out 1 up on 18, sealing Team Solids’ 16–14 win in a finish the group still talks about.
On the individual side, Kyle Mahoney turned in a wire-to-wire-adjacent performance for the ages — surging from 8th after Round 1 into a share of the lead on moving day, then running away with it on The Loop Black, capped by a net eagle on 10. He won by seven shots, still the largest margin in Santy Cup history.
